July/August, 1997 Volume XII Number 7 - IN THE NATION Apology to our readers Prisoner John Funk a fraud It is difficult under any circumstances to admit error, but it is necessary. The story of prisoner John Funk in the Mat issue of Life Advocate was a fraud. The fault is mine for not going to the primary sources before running the story. I depended on other sources who were themselves scammed by Funk. I apologize for the error and especially to those of you who wrote or sent money to Funk for his "appeal." I was gulled as well. I suppose that I was just so used to hearing about unjust trestment of pro-life prisoners that I found it easy to believe. There will be no repeats of this kind of story.
